Ventnor Students to Join Surfriders for MLK Marsh Cleanup
This Monday, Jan 20, Martin Luther King Day, will mark the 30th anniversary of the MLK National Day of Service, a holiday that not only honors the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but also encourages everyone to volunteer to improve their communities.
The students at the Ventnor Educational Community Complex plan to do their part.
In an Instagram post, the Ventnor School District says that after students picked up 167 pounds of trash behind Ventnor Plaza shopping center during a cleanup event hosted by the school back in November, the students decided that they needed to do more.
The South Jersey Surfrider Foundation Cleanup
The national Surfrider Foundation was founded in 1984 by a group of surfers who wanted to protect the world-class waves in their backyard in Malibu.

Each Martin Luther King Day of Service, the South Jersey Surfriders lead a cleanup of the Ventnor bayfront, cleaning the marshland, educating and spreading awareness about plastic pollution as they go.
A Martin Luther King Coastal Cleanup
The VECC students got together with the city of Ventnor, the owners of the Ventnor Plaza and South Jersey Surfrider Foundation to be apart of this cleanup of the ecosystem of the marsh on Wellington Avenue.
You are welcome to join in. The cleanup is kid and family-friendly and you can move at your own pace.
As a participant, you will comb the shoreline looking for litter to collect that could endanger wildlife and people - in the habitat/environment we share. Your recorded data allows Surfrider to influence laws & reduce plastic pollution at the source!
The MLK cleanup is Monday, Jan. 20th from 10 am to 1 pm. The cleanup crew will meet up in the Ventnor Plaza parking lot, 5000 Wellington Ave, Ventnor, in front of Auto Zone. Sign up for the cleanup.
