Team Effort Helps in Rescue of Kitten On Ocean City Bridge
The Humane Society of Ocean City's animal control team got a big assist from Ocean City Police and the community to save a kitten running loose on the Rt. 52 Causeway who ended up in the engine block of an SUV.
My friend, Bill Hollingsworth, the CEO of the Humane Society of Ocean City, filled me in on the details.
Kitten On The 9th Street Bridge
The Humane Society of Ocean City also handles animal control in Ocean City.
So when there was a call to assist the police with a kitten loose on the 9th Street bridge on Wednesday night, the Humane Society's Courtney and De'Anna responded to help.
Before the Humane Society's team reached the bridge, someone in one of the cars stopped because the kitten was on the road ran out to catch him.
The kitten ran under a stopped SUV on the bridge and climbed up in the vehicle's engine block.
The kitten was scared and would not come out.
Ocean City Police told the SUV's driver to slowly drive to the fishing pier on the bridge where they would try to rescue the kitten and get the traffic moving again.
The Kitten Would Not Come Out
The HSOC team and the Ocean City Police tried everything they could think of to get the Kitten out from under the vehicle.
They even had the SUV driver pull the front of the vehicle up on the sidewalk so they could crawl under to try to pull him out.
Nothing was working.
The police convinced the SUV driver to leave their vehicle on the bridge and set up a trap to catch the kitten when he finally came out.
Blankets and towels were hung down from the vehicle to the ground to stop the kitten from running away.
A Kitten Rescue
The police stayed on the scene checking the trap until, finally, the kitten came out and was caught by the police.
Ocean City Police took the mischievous kitten to the police station and Deana from the Humane Society of Ocean City met them and transported him to the HSOC veterinary facility where he was examined and found to be in good health.
Bill Hollingsworth tells me that several people have inquired about adopting the kitten, nicknamed "Causeway".
It was a safe ending for the wayward kitten, thanks to Ocean City Police, the Humane Society of Ocean City, and the community.
By the way, the Humane Society of Ocean City has many other cute cats and kittens waiting to be adopted.
