Stafford Twp Police Granted ‘Extreme Risk’ Order On Student
Stafford Township Police have released information about an investigation conducted on a student at Southern Regional High School in Manahawkin after concerns were raised about the student's behavior and potential risks to the school.
Concerns Raised About Student and School Safety
In a release. police say recent social media posts have discussed the student in question, and a 'legal document' online talks about the potential threats from the student related to the school.
The police Facebook post does not identify the student by name, but it says the student is a juvenile attending Southern Regional High School.
The Southern Regional High School administration took immediate action, conducting an investigation that led to further evaluation of the student. This evaluation indicated concerns about the student’s behavior and potential risks to the school.
Stafford Twp Police Searched the Student's Home
After being advised about the possible threat, Stafford Twp Police say they searched the student's home and found no weapons and there were no firearms registered to the home.
The police say they took the student in for a screening and filed papers with a judge and were granted a Temporary Extreme Risk Protective Order or " TERPO".
New Jersey says a TERPO applies to safeguards against a person who "poses a danger of causing bodily injury to self or others by possessing or purchasing a firearm".
The police say the student has been removed from the Southern Regional School District, and steps are being taken to ensure ongoing safety and monitoring.
