Producers looking for six locally-based actors for roles in a horror movie to be filmed in South Jersey in late September and early October have issued another casting call.

Earlier this summer, the producers held a casting call for four leading actor roles. Now they are trying to fill the roles of six day players for the film.

What Are Movie "Day Players"?

The casting is being handled by Weist Barron Acting and Casting in Galloway.

In their Facebook ad for this casting call round, they say they are looking for actors who are "outgoing and easy to work with to portray 6 Day Players in a found footage horror film. Must be ok working day and night shoots".

A day player is defined by Backstage as follows:

A day player is an actor hired on a daily basis and not on a long-term contract. Day players usually live up to their moniker and are usually only on set for a day or two. They usually only have a few lines, which places them in the space between background actors and the main cast.

What We Know About the Movie

The movie is a 'found footage' horror film, titled "Leeds Point".

The most famous example of a found footage horror movie is The Blair Witch Project..

A movie named Leeds Point was filmed on location in Leeds Point, Galloway Township, in 2008.

That film was a horror movie centered around the legend of the Jersey Devil, which is deeply rooted in the South Jersey Pine Barrens.

It's not clear if the new movie, Leeds Point, shares anything more than a title with this earlier film.

The Legend of the Jersey Devil

According to legend, the Jersey Devil was born in Leeds Point.

WikiPedia says the legend 'claims that in 1735, the thirteenth child of a woman called Mrs. Leeds from the community was transformed into a demon shortly after birth due to her cursing that it would be the devil.'

Locals in the Pine Barrens call it the Leeds Devil. They say it has a horse's head, long legs with hooves, two short front legs, and a bat's wings.

The Devil has glowing red eyes and makes loud screeching sounds. It's very ugly, and people are terrified after seeing it. During the day, the Devil lives in the wetlands. At night, it comes out to scare anyone it meets.

What Are Producers Looking for From Actors?

Interested non-union actors must be available for day and nighttime shoots in South Jersey during the estimated one-week shoot of the movie, between September 28 and October 4.

The actors, three male and three female, will play the roles of the following characters:

1- Town local: a 50s male with a beard.

2- Jack Young: A 30s or 40s male who would be convincing as a camper/hiker.

3- Elyse Young: a 30s or 40s female who would be convincing as a camper/hiker

4- Dr. Anna Schultz: a 40s female with an academic vibe.

5- Ramond Jones: a 40s to 60s male, tall with a deep voice.

6- Female hiker: a 70s female with grey or white messy hair.

In the Weist Barron Facebook post below, you will find detailed descriptions of the characters and submission and pay rate information if you are interested in playing one of these characters.

The deadline for submission of this information is Saturday, August 23, 2025.
