No Humans Injured in NJ Turnpike Accident
There were no injuries to humans reported, however, the trailer with the horses sustained damage to the rear door and ramp, leaving the horses trapped in the trailer.
In addition to the damage to the rear of the trailer, the trailer was disabled and unable to be moved from the roadway.
With all this going on, one of the horses was believed to be in distress and was injured as a result of the accident.
Coordination and Quick Thinking by First Responders Saved Horses
The first responders worked with the New Jersey State Police and the owners of the horses to extricate the horses from the wreckage.
Southbound lanes of the Turnpike were shut down, and members of Squad Co. 13 used special tools to remove the trailer doors and ramp.
The first responders then used their vehicles to create a makeshift coral to keep the horses safe during the operation.
The horses were taken to receive further medical care.
As of Tuesday evening, state police did not have information on the condition of the horses.
