Sewer Pipe Leak Closes Wellington Ave in Ventnor Heights
A leak from a sewer pipe caused the closure of a busy street in Ventnor Heights Sunday afternoon. A video by Julia Librone on Facebook shows a flood of sewer water in the street.
Wellington Avenue, the road that connects Ventnor Heights to Atlantic City along the bay, became impassable between 3 and 4pm Sunday and the road remains closed.
As of 3am Monday, Ventnor Police said there is 'no time frame' for the reopening of Wellington Ave. Wellington Avenue is closed between Dorset and Victoria Avenues, and will remain closed until repairs are completed.

A Detour through the back streets of Ventnor Heights has been set up to allow motorists access to the Ventnor Shopping Plaza and the Black Horse Pike in Atlantic City.
Vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic are prohibited in this area of Wellington Avenue,
According to the ACUA, Sunday afternoon, February 21, the Atlantic County Utilities Authority learned of a leak in a sewer pipe on Wellington Avenue in Ventnor. The ACUA’s contractor in charge of the repair is on site to assess the situation and initiate repair work.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection was notified immediately and local health departments and the office of emergency management have been notified.
The ACUA says that water testing may be conducted as a precaution near the leak and if recreation activities in nearby waterways should be temporarily suspended, notification will be posted.
Although the sewer line break has no impact on the quality of drinking water, the ACUA is asking residents of Ventnor, Margate and Longport to conserve water in order to minimize the amount of wastewater that would be conveyed through the area where the leak is located.
