A Toms River family whose house caught fire Saturday night is alive because of the efforts of a good Samaritan neighbor.

Ring camera footage captured the moment the neighbor came to the Pope family's door to alert the family to evacuate the house.

The fire at the home on Leawood Avenue was reported at 11:43 pm Saturday.

"Get Out of the House! There's a Fire"

The homeowner, Jonathan Pope, said all four family members — two adults, a 17-year-old, and a 9-month-old baby — and the family's dog were able to escape unharmed because of the neighbors.

"I just hear, boom, boom, boom, pounding on the garage," Pope said.

"It sounded like a truck or car was hitting my garage. I thought people were breaking in so I ran out, gave it a peek over, and I see somebody opening the front door, with lights all around him, and he's like, 'Get out of the house! There's a fire."

Pope described the scene he saw looking out his front door.

"All around was just lit up, debris was falling on him. I just screamed to my wife, 'Hey, grab the baby!'. She ran our first. I made sure she was out, and then I just came out."

"They Saved Our Family"

Jonathan Pope realizes he was a lucky man to have such concerned neighbors on Saturday night.

Everyone got out unharmed, thanks to those neighbors who saw flames and raced over.

The Pope family said they were asleep in a back bedroom and didn't know there was a fire until the neighbors made all that noise.

'So thankful", Pope said. "They saved our family, yeah."

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the Pope family with fire damage to their home.
