Police Post Video to Nab Ocean County Door Dash Hit & Run Driver
Here's a new technology twist on an old crime problem.
Police in Ocean County were able to track down a Door Dash driver who was involved in a hit-and-run crash while making a delivery by posting doorbell camera video of the crash and asking locals to identify the hit 'n' run door dasher.
Manchester Police let social media do the detective work after a Door Dash delivery driver sideswiped a car at the home where he was making the delivery.
The delivery man continued to make his delivery at the house after the crash, but, police say Door Dash would not release his entire identity.
Door Dash was contacted by the Manchester Township Police Department and unfortunately only provided some limited information, identifying the Door Dash driver as “Richard E.”
So, Manchester Police put the home surveillance video of the crash on their social media and asked for the community's help with an ID.
After posting the video of the unknown Door Dash driver to our social media accounts, we received numerous tips from our followers to help us identify the vehicle and driver.
That was when the guilty Door Dash driver knew the gig was up and turned himself in.
On January 28, 2022, the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, Mr. Richard Ethier, 62, of Berkely, NJ, responded to our police headquarters and identified himself as the Door Dash driver operating the Chevrolet Silverado in the video.
The driver was charged with careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
If I were the judge, I would rule that he had to pay for the damage and pay for the food of the folks whose car he hit. And, return their tip, too!
