A pedestrian was killed after being hit by an SUV Monday night on New Road in Northfield, according to Northfield Police

Police were called to the scene on Route 9, in front of the Center Point Plaza near Banning Avenue at 9:08 pm Monday.

The pedestrian died at the scene. Northfield Police say that the driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene.

The pedestrian, Christopher McFaul, 44, from Northfield, was crossing New Road in the area of Banning Avenue when he was struck by a Northbound 2017 Jeep Renegade operated by Jasmine Trujillo, 25, from Brigantine.

As a result of the. crash, McFaul sustained multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

New Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the incident was investigated.

The incident is being investigated by Ptlm. Herbert Kreuz and Lt. Eric Dettinger of the Northfield Police Department were assisted on scene by Ptlm. Ben Kollman of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office.
