Although there was no grand prize winner, two players matched all five white numbers drawn to win $1 million. Those tickets were sold in California and Kentucky.  However, neither player also played the Megaplier option which would have increased their winnings to $3 million.

The last grand prize jackpot winner was over two months ago, from a ticket for $96 million sold in New York on Feb.16. It was only the second grand-prize ticket sold in 2021 after a ticket sold in Michigan on Jan 22 for $1.05 billion, which was the second-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.

The previous winning ticket before that was sold in Wisconsin on Sept.15 for a jackpot worth $119 million. That was only the fifth, and final, Mega Millions jackpot won in the 2020 calendar year.

The biggest ever Mega Millions jackpot was a whopping $1.537 billion. The single winning ticket was sold in South Carolina on Oct. 23, 2018, but the winner’s identity remains a mystery. That’s because South Carolina is one of a handful of states where winners can stay anonymous. And this winner chose to do that.

Lottery officials said the winner chose the cash option, which turned out to be a massive check for almost $878 million.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Five balls are drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 70; the Mega ball is drawn from a set of balls numbered 1 through 25. The odds of winning the jackpot is 1 in 302 million.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, plus the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands. Tickets cost $2 each. Good luck!
