New Jersey has its share of urban legends.

The Jersey Devil is perhaps the most well-known of all Jersey legends, but there are quite a few others.

This summer, you may even want to explore our state and check out some of these legends for yourself.  Do you dare?

The Atco Ghost

This is an easy legend to track down yourself.

The story of the Atco Ghost involves a little boy who was playing with a basketball he received for Christmas.

The ball got away from him and when he chased it down, he was hit by a drunk driver who then took off.

To this day, people will travel to the end of Burnt Mill Road in the middle of the night, pull off to the side of the road, turn off their cars, and honk three times.

It is said that people who have done this, have sighted the ghost of the little boy.

The Blue Hole

If you ever thought about tracking down the Jersey Devil, this is a place you may want to visit.

Deep in the Pinelands in Winslow Township is a watering hole known as The Blue Hole.

The spot got its name from the deep blue color of the water.  The water is said to be crystal clear blue, freezing-cold year-round.

Be warned, legend has it that people have been sucked into this bottomless body of water to never be seen or heard from again.

Legend has it that the Jersey Devil has been known to frequent this spot.  Hike up to this place at your own risk.

The Sandy Hook Serpent

This is New Jersey's version of the Loch Ness Monster.  The creature is said to live in the Shrewsbury River.

It's said that boaters in the 19th century came across a giant serpent-like creature while returning from a picnic.

Through the years, there is said to have been numerous sightings of the giant sea creature, though nobody has been able to identify exactly what the creature is.

Anyone brave enough to go diving in the river?
