It was a beautiful day to kick off the Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer at the Jersey Shore.

The Boardwalk was bustling with a nice-sized crowd, signaling that if the weather cooperates, this could be a very good year for the Jersey Shore.

I was on the boardwalk for most of the day, and the crowd was definitely on the young side, but they were good kids.

I didn't witness fights, foul language, or even that smell that we've come to know in New Jersey.

When I got home later that day, I was surprised to start seeing posts on various Facebook pages reacting to reports of problems that were starting up.

It appeared someone posted about how they "heard that there were reports of possible shots fired at an unspecified location of the boardwalk..."

Like that old game, we used to play as kids called, Telephone, the post spread fast, and despite there not being official confirmation, people started reacting.

This morning, the Ocean County Sheriff's Office released this statement on their Facebook page,

As many of you know last night there were reports of shots fired on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights. This was a false report and did not happen Thanks to our partners for assisting in assuring the safety of all was carried out during a very busy evening. Social media at times can spread information which is not true- However we have a responsibility to make sure the public is safe!
