🎸 New Jersey's Jon Bon Jovi Endorses Kamala Harris

🎸 Releases New Song in Support of Democratic Campaign

🎸 Mixed Reaction from Fans

These announcements tend to get a lot of attention, but do they mean anything?

Jon Bon Jovi, the legendary rock star who calls New Jersey home, has announced he is endorsing Kamala Harris for President.

I don't think anyone is surprised when an artist or other celebrity supports a Democratic politician.

Earlier this year, Taylor Swift threw her support behind Harris as well.

So, do people make their political decisions based on the advice of Taylor or Jon?

Political endorsements from celebrities carry risks for the endorser.

This is especially true at a time when our country is so divided.

I posed this question to a small group of people and the response was quite strong.

  • A 30-something female New York resident said, "Oh God, I hate when celebrities talk politics.  Once they share their political view, it ruins my relationship with them."
  • Another woman, 58, from New Jersey said, I watch television, go to movies, and go to concerts and sporting events to get away from reality for a while. When celebrities or sports figures start with their political talk, it destroys that escape from reality.  I hate that."
  • A 60-year-old male from New Jersey offered that, "These stars have no idea what it's like to live in the real world.  Let them spend time in my shoes, and then I'll respect their views.  I like their music, I don't care what their political views are.

Back to Jon Bon Jovi, last week he posted on Instagram,

The truth matters. And the truth is, on Election Day, I’ll be voting for @KamalaHarris and @TimWalz because I believe in the power of we, not of me.

But that's not all. Jon also released a new song called, "The People's House."  He teamed with the gospel/country duo known as The War and Treaty.

Fan reaction to his endorsement is like everything else in the country,

  • One fan responded to the Instagram post by saying, "That’s too bad! I think you’ll end up regretting it, but you do you!"
  • Yet another fan posted, "Sad right-wingers are going to try and cancel Bon Jovi now"
