Ed Jones, the 'Man that made the ice cream" at Lindy Hops Homemade Ice Cream and Water Ice at 401 S. Pitney Road in Galloway, has died.

Edward Jones, also known as "Mister Lindy Hops", of Egg Harbor City, was 79 and had been dealing with a lengthy illness, according to his obituary.

He passed away at home in the presence of the love of his life, Linda L’Erario on Feb 13th.

The Dynamic Duo of Lindy Hops

In 1991, Ed and Linda opened Lindy Hops, a 50s-themed ice cream parlor serving unique flavors of homemade ice cream and water ice.

The store grew from 400 square feet to 1,500 square foot store as Ed worked making the ice cream and water ice for the better part of 34 years.

His obituary points out how much Ed loved his job and relished making people smile with his "quick wit, banter, and what the Lindy Hops crew referred to as “Ed-isms”.

He was goofy, fun, and always made everyone around him laugh. Whenever anyone needed him, he was always there.

Together with Linda, they were known as “The Dynamic Duo” at Lindy Hops. When Ed became ill some time ago, Linda stepped into the role of making ice cream for the shop.

Ed Jones Life

Ed was a South Jersey local, born in Atlantic City.

After serving in the Army, he worked for the Sheet Metal Workers’ Local 27 union, before retiring and going into the ice cream business.

When Ed wasn’t making ice cream, he could be found doing other things he enjoyed, including hunting, fishing, hiking, and camping.

Together with his friends, they became permanent fixtures at local eateries like TW Howells, The Cracked Egg, and The Egg Harbor Diner.

Ed loved spending time with all of his fur babies and enjoying the wildlife that surrounded his home.

His obituary says Ed is survived by the love of his life for 39 years, Linda L’Erario, as well as his Lindy Hops employees through all the years who he considered his family, often referring to them as the children he never had.

The feeling was mutual, as the employees thought of him as a fatherly figure.
