Microsoft “Glitch” Creates Massive Headaches in NJ and Worldwide
You wouldn't be alone if you arrived at work this morning and couldn't log into your workstation.
If you were traveling, you may have encountered flight delays, and banking online may have been unavailable.
And it's not even a Monday. So what's going on?
I'll get this out of the way from the beginning. Microsoft says these problems were not the result of a cyberattack.
How Did the Microsoft Outage Happen
They say the issues began with a routine software update
CrowdStrike is a cybersecurity company that is one of the biggest providers of cybersecurity software in the world.
They create programs that shield our computers from viruses and malware.
They're used by businesses and government offices as well as regular folks who use the Microsoft operating system.
The software they produce is updated frequently, to keep up with ever-changing online threats.
This is usually a routine operation and most of the time, you don't even know it's updating or even running, for that matter.
The most recent update, however, contained a defect, and that has created chaos for those who use it, as well as those trying to reach those who use it. Some are calling it the worst online outage ever.
Whether or not your computer runs CrowdStrike software, it will impact you if you're trying to contact a company that does use it.
Many People Affected Even if They Don't Use CrowdStrike
Many flights were delayed or canceled because of this glitch, people have reported problems getting their banking done, and many other online transactions have been impacted.
Here's Where to Get a Fix to the Problems
As of press time, CrowdStrike has released information on a workaround, and things should be back to normal.
