Mays Landing Firefighters Honored for Saving a Life In Condo Fire
Six firefighters from the Mays Landing Fire Department were honored for saving the life of a person trapped in a burning apartment in January.
Firefighters from Mays Landing Fire Department tanker 1819 were first to arrive on the scene of a fire at the Sandpiper Condominium complex on Rt. 40 in Mays Landing at 3:54 pm on Jan. 16, 2021.
During a search of the building, the crew located a single victim on a couch in the unit on fire. Firefighters were able to rescue the occupant and turn over the victim's care to the Township of Hamilton Rescue Squad and AtlantiCare Paramedics.
The victim, who suffered from severe smoke inhalation, was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center - City Division and subsequently flown via Medivac for more advanced care.

Six members of the Mays Landing Fire Department: Asst. Chief Ken Badger Jr., Captain Robert DeBiaso, Captain Matthew Robison, Firefighter Mark Jenigen, Firefighter Nathan Harring, and Imagery Specialist Ken Badger Sr. were honored for their heroic actions that day in saving the victim's life.
The person rescued made a full recovery within a few days.
