Firefighters from the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company and the Upper Township Division of Emergency Medical Services were called Sunday night after a car left the roadway on the Garden State Parkway and caught fire.

The firefighters were dispatched by Ocean City Police Communications to a reported car fire at milepost 25.9 North on the Garden State Parkway after 9 pm Sunday.

According to a Facebook post from the Marmora Volunteer Fire Company, firefighters found a single car had driven off the Garden State Parkway and crashed into trees, catching fire.

The driver of the vehicle had been able to escape the burning car before the fire crew arrived.

Firefighters remained on the scene for about an hour. The NJ State Police were on the scene and are investigating the cause.
