Marlene’s Movie Madness : The Diary of a Teenage Girl [VIDEO]
Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images[/caption]"The Diary of a Teenage Girl" is a coming-of-age movie about 15 year-old Minnie Goetz (Bel Powley). The story takes place in the 1970's in San Francisco, and it is told through the eyes of Minnie. And let's just say it's unconventional, and the movie may not be for everyone.
Everything about the story line is unconventional...from her divorced mother's unconventional lifestyle to Minnie's unconventional relationship with her mother's boyfriend. Minnie's mother (Kristen Wiig) is so caught up in her own hard-partying world that she barely notices what is going on in her daughter's life. And as you may have guessed by now...it's complicated.
The movie makes no attempt to pass judgment on anyone. And it does get pretty graphic at times. But it's honest and funny too. Bel Powley does a very good job in her portrayal of a girl struggling with her own identity. If that sounds interesting to you, then you might enjoy this one. I actually did. But I happen to enjoy unconventional flicks. :)
