Linwood Police say a Mainland High School student - a juvenile - was arrested after he was found to be in possession of an imitation firearm.

Police say they were called to the school Thursday afternoon "when a staff member reported to a Class III Linwood Police Officer, who is assigned to Mainland Regional High School, that there was allegedly a student possessing a firearm in their backpack in a classroom. "

Linwood Police says the officer, along with administrators, went to the classroom where the administrator searched the backpack and recovered the imitation handgun from the backpack.

The student was not in the classroom when the recovery took place, but he was quickly found and arrested by the officer.

In all, police report the entire incident, from report to arrest, only took a few minutes.

Police say the student was charged and eventually released to the custody of a parent.
