Mainland Alum Chase Petty Makes Pro Debut

Former Mainland standout pitcher Chase Petty made his pro baseball debut today for the Florida Coast League Twins. Petty, who was the 26th pick by the Minnesota Twins in the MLB Draft.

Petty looked very good in his pro debut; according to reports, his fastball sat between 94-96 mph, hitting as high as 97 on the radar gun while his slider was between 80-84 and very tight.

The former mustangs star tossed two scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts, and no walks, giving up two hits.

Before being drafted, during his senior season at Mainland, Petty was electric, being named the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year. He went 6-1 with a 1.00 ERA, and 99 strikeouts in 48.2 innings pitched to earn the prestigious honor.
