Authorities in Egg Harbor Township say an incident between a 15-year-old girl on a bicycle and a tow truck on a busy roadway Wednesday afternoon was an "unfortunate accident."

The scene unfolded around 4:45 in the area of Ocean Heights Avenue and Blackman Road in the Scullville section of the township.

An updated press release from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department says a tow truck was traveling northbound on Ocean Heights Avenue in slow traffic just south of Blackman Road while the teen was on her bike riding on the shoulder of the road headed in the same direction.

When she was next to the truck, she lost her balance and fell off of her bike.

As she fell into the road, she fell into the path and underneath the rear tires of the tow truck, according to authorities, who also said there was no contact between the truck and bike before the accident.

The unidentified teen remains in Cooper Hospital in Camden due to her injuries.

Police say their investigation revealed no impairment or other factors to believe the tow truck driver was operating carelessly or recklessly at the time of the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Egg Harbor Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit at (609) 926-2641.
