• Jeremy Algarin pleaded guilty to second-degree distribution of CSAM
  • He was sentenced to five years in state prison
  • Investigators located more than 1,000 illicit images and videos

Camden County, N.J. – A former paramedic in South Jersey is headed to prison in connection with the distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

Back in June, 31-year-old Jeremy Algarin of Berlin Borough pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree distribution of CSAM.

Last week, he was sentenced to five years in state prison. He must also register as a sex offender under Megan's Law and will be subject to lifetime parole supervision.

According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, Algarin was arrested and charged on August 6th of last year after a cyber tip led detectives to a Discord account that was used to possess and distribute CSAM.

During an investigation, detectives identified Algarin as the user of that account. Additionally, a forensic search of his cell phone revealed CSAM, and detectives ultimately located more than 1,000 images and videos of CSAM on various electronic devices.

At the time of his arrest, Algarin was employed as a paramedic and emergency medical technician (EMT). His paramedic/EMT license has since been revoked by the State of New Jersey.

The State was represented by Section Chief Sonja Furlow of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office High Tech Crimes Unit. The investigation was conducted by Detective James Cavanaugh of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office High Tech Crimes Unit.
