Ocean City, N.J. — More than a month after a 20-year-old swimmer disappeared in the ocean off Ocean City, authorities have confirmed that a body recovered in Sea Isle City on June 19th is the missing man.

Swimmer Goes Missing on May 18th

The swimmer, identified by WPVI-TV as a Hofstra University student from Exton, PA, vanished on May 18th after being knocked off a boogie board by a wave near the 10th Street beach in Ocean City. Authorities said he failed to resurface, prompting a massive search involving local, state, and federal agencies.

A person who had been with the man was able to provide information to first responders.

After several days of searching, Ocean City Police announced on May 21st that the operation would transition from a search-and-rescue effort to a recovery mission.

Despite extensive efforts by the Ocean City Police and Fire Departments, Ocean City Beach Patrol, New Jersey State Police, and the U.S. Coast Guard, the swimmer was not located.

Body Found in Sea Isle City

In an update from the Ocean City Police Department Tuesday morning, authorities said a deceased male was discovered in the area of 72nd Street in Sea Isle City on Friday, June 19th.

Following an investigation, officials said the Medical Examiner's Office positively identified the man as the swimmer who went missing off Ocean City's 10th Street beach on May 18th.

Family Requests Privacy

Authorities said the swimmer's family has been notified and has requested privacy. No additional information is being released at this time.
