Three people have been charged for allegedly breaking into vehicles in Brigantine early Monday morning.

Around 3:30, the Brigantine Police Department received a call about three people trying to open car doors in the 4200 block of Brigantine Blvd.

Police say the caller observed the trio open an unlocked vehicle and leave shortly thereafter.

Officer Sweet, Officer Suralik, and Detective Powderley responded to the area and located the three males. Subsequent to an investigation, all three were arrested for burglary to motor vehicles.

Further investigation found that they were allegedly in possession of stolen property from vehicles burglarized in both Brigantine and Philadelphia and one of the men had a large knife while committing these burglaries.

The following people were arrested and charged:

  • 28-year-old Bryan O. Soto of Philadelphia - Burglary, receiving stolen property, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He was also found to have an unrelated warrant for his arrest. He was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing.
  • 20-year-old Bayshawn T. Hedgepeth of Gainesville, FL - Burglary. He was released on a summons.
  • 32-year-old Montrell R. Hardy of Philadelphia - Burglary. He was released on a summons.

As always, police remind residents and visitors to keep vehicles locked and not leave valuables inside.

The public is reminded that charges are accusations and all persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
