One of the hot topics in the years after the COVID-19 Lockdowns in 2020 has been preventative health care. One of the best ways to stave off serious health issues is to have a healthier lifestyle.

Whether the health issues are genetically predisposed or a byproduct of an unhealthy lifestyle, there are different ways we can all manage our health for the long term. In the United States, the average life expectancy is approximately 76.6 years, so the sooner people start taking care of their health, the better the later years of life can become.

The website Renew Bariatrics has created a Health Index to measure what are the healthiest states in America. They gathered data from the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention, the Center for Disease Control, along with the Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality.

How New Jersey Health Ranks Compared To Other States

The research by Renew Bariatrics found that New Jersey is one of the states with lower rates of lifestyle-related health issues. This is why their Health Index ranks New Jersey as the fourth Healthiest State in America.

Compared to the rest of the United States, New Jersey has a low percentage of residents who are dealing with serious health issues including:

*Obesity: 29.1% (6th lowest rate)
*Mental Illness: 19.38% (The lowest rate in the United States)
*Tobacco Use: 14.66% (3rd lowest rate)
*Heavy Alcohol Use: 5% (4th lowest rate)

Even though New Jersey's approximate Life Expectancy (77.5 years) is lower than 18 states, overall The Garden State has healthy residents. None of New Jersey's neighbors are on the top ten of the Health Index List: New York is the 13th Healthiest State in America, Delaware is ranked 19th on the list, and Pennsylvania is 29th on the Health Index.
