A Master of the Basepaths: Lopes’ Impact in Philadelphia

Davey Lopes was the team's first base coach from 2007-2010, helping them become one of the best base-running teams in the major leagues, leading the majors in stolen base percentage, including the best in MLB history in 2007.

posted on social media"the best base-stealing coach we’ve ever had. And a great base stealer in his own right. So sad to hear of his passing. God bless the Lopes family, who have had to endure so much heartache. Thank you, Davey, for bringing joy to all of us. RIP."

After a long playing career with four teams, most notably the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he won a World Series as a player in 1981, the four-time All-Star also played with the Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, and Houston Astros.

He went on to become a manager with the Milwaukee Brewers from 2000-2002, going 144-195.

After his time in Philadelphia, Lopes landed in LA with the Dodgers and finished his career with the Nationals as a first base coach.
