It's that time of year. Mosquito time. The Atlantic County Government is planning to spray for mosquitoes tonight, Tuesday, July 8th. Here are the details.

The Office for Mosquito Control is conducting an evening aerial spray over parts of Galloway Township and Port Republic.

The spraying is weather permitting, which could be a complication with storms in the forecast this evening in South Jersey.

Where Tonight's Spraying Will Happen

In Galloway Township, the areas to be treated are:  Route 9 and King’s Highway; Rt. 9 east to the E.B. Forsythe Refuge, from Smith-Bowen Rd. to Leeds Point Rd.; Route 9 east to the E.B. Forsythe Refuge, from E. Somers Landing Rd. to E. Chanese Lane.
In Port Republic, the areas to be treated are between Sooy’s Landing Road, Clark’s Landing Road, and Mill Street on the west, and Chestnut Neck to the east.

What Is Being Sprayed?

According to the Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Spraying, the Aerial spraying will be done using Merus 3.0, a trade name for Pyrethrins, a botanical insecticide, applied as an ultra-low volume aerosol.

If you have health information about the pesticides to be applied, call the Office of Mosquito Control at (609) 645-5948.

What Precautions Should We Take?

Although there are no advisories for relocating or special precautions because of the spraying, you should follow these common-sense steps.

  • Staying indoors during application to the immediate area
  • Keeping windows shut, window fans and window air conditioners off (or set to circulate indoor air) during spraying
  • Keeping children’s toys indoors
  • Keeping pets indoors, as well as their food, water dishes, and toys
You can help reduce mosquito populations by removing standing water from your property.
