I feel like in recent years a lot of workplaces, including mine, have not only recognized the need mental resets while on the job, but encouraged them.

In fact, right here at the radio station we have a space called the 'Zen Den' with a massage chair, sofa, and Himalayan salt lamp for when employees just need to take a few moments to themselves.

But while breaks and a little down time while at work may have become more acceptable, it's doubtful that, unless you're a doctor or nurse working long shifts in a hospital setting, that sleeping on the job is.

What U.S. States are Napping on the Job the Most?

Yet that's exactly what happening in New Jersey...and, A LOT. In fact, New Jersey employees rank inside the Top 3 in the whole entire country for napping during work hours.

According to Mattress Next Day, a leading online mattress retailer, Kentucky is the U.S. state that has the hardest time staying awake at work. Ranking at #1, nearly 50 percent of employees in The Bluegrass State admit to catching some zzz's while on the clock.

To determine their “Nap Capitals of the U.S., Mattress Next Day surveyed 1,500 participants from across America using CensusWide as a resource as well as recent data from Google Keyword Planner.

New Jersey ranks #3, mattressnextday.com reports. 44 percent of employees in the Garden State say they've napped during work hours, whether on scheduled break or not.

24 percent of NJ workers reportedly admitted to napping during scheduled breaks, while 20 percent have slept at random points during the workday, but we're not please with ourselves. According to the research, New Jersey feels pretty guilty about not being able to fight the urge to close their eyes on the job.

Falling in between Kentucky and New Jersey is Oklahoma. Rounding out the Top 5 sleepiest workplace employees are Nevada at #4 and California at #5.
