With Easter right around the corner, you're seeing festive baskets, sweet treats, and other seasonal goodies lining store shelves throughout New Jersey.

And this year, spending is expected to be up, as families plan for a big meal and fun activities for the kids. There's nothing better than seeing the little ones' faces light up as they run around searching for Easter eggs.

What Are Families Spending on Easter This Year?

Whether you're hosting an Easter celebration or bringing a dish to a family member's home, people are spending more this year to make the holiday extra special, despite rising costs.

According to the National Retail Federation, Easter spending is expected to hit a record high, with shoppers budgeting $195.59 this year, up from the previous record of $192.01.

What's leading the shopping category this Easter? CANDY

Consumers aren't skimping on chocolate, Peeps, jelly beans, and more.

The study found that 92% of consumers are planning to purchase candy, with other top categories including food, gifts, decorations, and clothing.

“While economic uncertainty remains on the minds of many, consumers are still focused on holiday celebrations like Easter,” NRF Chief Economist and Executive Director of Research Mark Mathews said.

“Holidays provide an important opportunity for families to reconnect and create lasting memories, even as economic conditions fluctuate.”
