Sorry New Jersey, According To Experts You’re Not As Haunted As You Think

We are in peak spooky season here at the Jersey Shore, and it really is an awesome time of year.

The streets of downtown Toms River are lined with scarecrows, the massive Halloween parade is just a few days out, and the smell of Fall is in the air.

It's near perfect.

It's also a great time of year to explore the scarier side of New Jersey, and whether you're new to the state or are a lifelong Jersey resident then you're well aware that we have our fair share of haunts in the Garden State.

There's the Parkway Phantom that supposedly haunts Exit 82 on the Garden State.

Shades of Death Road in Warren County where rumor has it is one of the most haunted roads in Jersey.

And then there's the story of Ongs Hat, one of Jersey's creepiest abandoned towns.

Supposedly at one point, it was the home of a cult that opened a portal to another dimension, like I said it's a crazy story.

So, when a national publication goes ahead and ranks each state in the country by how haunted they are, you'd expect Jersey to be pretty high up in this list.

Where Does NJ Fall On The List Of America's Most Haunted States?

Before we get to NJ, let's check in on our neighbors and see where they ranked on the list.

Pennsylvania came in at the 5th most haunted state in the country, mainly because it's the home of Gettysburg.

An important Civil War Era town that is legitimately home to thousands of ghosts.

New York came in as the 15th most haunted state in America because of its high rates of unresolved murders and abandoned buildings.

According to Love Exploring, New Jersey is the 38th most haunted state in the country.

I feel as though we should be ranked higher on that list, considering the legend of the Jersey Devil is scarier than any abandoned building you could find in New York.
