Innovative West Cape May Restaurant, Shop Go Up For Sale
Exit Zero Filling Station in West Cape May was listed for sale last week for $4.750 million.
The restaurant and store at 110 Sunset Blvd in West Cape May are owned by Exit Zero Hospitality LLC, a company led by Jack Wright.
Wright is a writer who founded a media company and has expanded into other industries during the past 22 years.
He publishes the weekly magazine named after Cape May's exit placement on the Garden State Parkway -- Exit Zero.
In 2018, Exit Zero Filling Station opened, occupying the former gas station with a custom-built restaurant, retail store, and offices.
In 2021, Exit Zero also took over the restaurants and retail shopping at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry terminal after signing a 10-year lease with Delaware River & Bay Authority.
But by 2024, Exit Zero negotiated an early end to the contract saying they wanted to focus on Exit Zero Filling Station and other business interests.
Exit Zero Filling Station's Unique Approach to Dining
The menu at Exit Zero Filling Station, which is closed for its "winter reset" and is scheduled to reopen in April, combines the Indian and Thai curries the restaurant became known for in an earlier incarnation with burgers and sandwiches.
Exit Zero Filling Station also has a bar, having been the recipient of West Cape May’s first-ever liquor license in 2019.
The restaurant made a splash when it opened, being named by New Jersey magazine as one of the 30 best new restaurants in the state.
Exit Zero Filling Station also gained national attention for its use of a classic Airstream trailer customized to accommodate dinner parties and a Winnebago-style mobile home that has been converted into "Studio Zero" with records and a record player.
Exit Zero Filling Station is For Sale
According to the real estate ad, the sale will include the indoor dining room and bar with seating for 98 people, retail and office space, and the liquor license, on a 180 x 89 possibly subdividable lot.
The dining trailers are also included in the deal, but the name "Exit Zero" isn't for sale, according to the ad.
14 parking spaces, 2 private dining trailers and 2 ADA restrooms, server station, full-service commercial kitchen with Ansel system, walk-in cooler, full bar, retail section and second floor office area and employee restroom. Real Estate taxes are $18,312.
