I don't want to spoil the fun of trick-or-treating for you and the kids today, but I am reading some unbelievable stats about the calories and sugar in all that Halloween candy and how long it will take for you to burn it off.
How Much Sugar Does a Kid Eat on Halloween?
According to the National Retail Federation. the average child eats an unbelievable 16 times their daily recommended amount of sugar on Halloween. That's 16 Times! I feel like that number should be in an even bigger font, but that's the largest font I've got.
How Many Calories Does the Average Child Consume on Halloween?
Hold on to your love handles for this one. Kids consume between 3,500 and 7000 calories on Halloween. According to the American Heart Association, a healthy young person up to 18 years old should have between 1,600 and 1,800 calories a day.
How Long Would It Take a Child to Burn Off 7000 Calories?
To burn off that 7,000 calories of candy, the kid would have to walk 180 miles while trick-or-treating. You better start early, junior. That's going to take a while.
How About a Smaller Amount of Halloween Candy?
Okay, fair enough question. Let's start with candy corn. One 15-piece serving of candy corn costs 110 calories, per Brach’s Candy Corn.
An adult female who weighs 144 pounds and noshed on 20 pieces — or 150 calories — of the tricolor candy would need to schedule a 17-minute jog to burn it off.
Are you a Skittles fan? For a fun-size pack of Skittles — which is about 60 calories — you’d need to jog for 6 minutes.
My favorite is Reeses's Peanut Butter Cups. How long to burn those off?
Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins and Bats are just like your favorite cups, with even more peanut buttery filling. Just one of these hefty confections is 85 calories.
For a 125-pound person, weight lifting for 30 minutes will burn 90 calories, as will 30 minutes of other sports and training activities such as bowling and volleyball.
May I add that it would be completely worth it for my Reese's Cups? Come on, it's Halloween!
