Beginning this weekend, kids under age 16 won't be allowed in Six Flags Great Adventure after 5 pm without an adult chaperone.

As of Saturday, all guests who are not at least 16 must be accompanied by an adult chaperone to be admitted to the theme park in Jackson, Six Flags said.

Great Adventure Blames Unruly Kids for Rule Change

The chaperone policy will be in effect daily at all Six Flags amusement parks after 5 p.m. for the remainder of their seasons, and the company said it could be enforced earlier on some days.
The policy change is spelled out in a new section of the company website.
"In response to the increasing incidents of unruly and inappropriate behavior across our industry and at other major entertainment venues, we are taking proactive steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone."

Guests who are 16 and older may also be required to present ID to verify proof of age before entering Six Flags.

People under age 15 found inside the park without a chaperone may be asked to leave.

Who Can Be a Chaperone?

Chaperones must be at least 21 and show valid government-issued photo identification with a date of birth at ticket entry.
One chaperone may accompany no more than ten guests ages 15 or younger per day.
The chaperone must accompany their party during entry, remain inside the park during their visit, and be available by phone.
Just like with everyone else, security will be watching. Six Flags Great Adventure security personnel utilize surveillance cameras and body-worn cameras as part of their overall security program.

The Policy Change Begins Just Before Fright Fest

The announcement of the policy comes one weekend before Six Flags' fall schedule of Halloween-themed events begins, including its Fright Fest attractions.

The move follows similar policies adopted by other local amusement parks in recent years. Last summer, Allentown's Dorney Park began requiring chaperones for guests under 16 due to many incidents it said occurred during previous seasons.

"We believe these changes will help ensure that Six Flags Great Adventure continues to have a positive atmosphere," the company said of the new policy.
