The economic ramifications still continue to be felt across the retail industry in 2020 with more store closings and staff cuts due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The latest round of closings according to NJ.com, comes from health and nutrition  retailer GNC. The company which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the summer of 2020, only planned to close 10 New Jersey locations. That number has now grown to 40 closing in the Garden State including South Jersey.

The South Jersey GNC locations which will be closing their doors for good include Blackwood, Cinnaminson, Delran, Deptford, Pennington, Mays Landing, Pennsville, Cherry Hill, Sewell, Turnersville, Vineland, Waretown, West Berlin.

There have been a slew of retail closings this year due to the coronavirus pandemic including Starbucks closing over 400 locations, The Children's Place closing 300 locations and AT&T closing 250 stores.

According to the website MoneyWise over 8,000 locations have closed for good in 2020 including  Pier 1 Imports, Men's Warehouse, GameStop, Bed Bath & Beyond, Victoria's Secret, The Gap, JC Penney, Best Buy, Brooks Brothers, Walgreens, Forever 21, A.C. Moore, Macy's, Kmart, Bose, and The Children's Place just to name a few.

The list of retail closing and job cuts will surely grow as the coronavirus pandemic drags on into the new year.
