Founder of Sam’s Pizza On the Wildwood Boardwalk Dies at 92

If you've been a South Jersey resident your whole life, there's no doubt that you're aware of the great Wildwood Boardwalk pizza rivalry.

It's basically a shore tradition at this point to favor one pizza place over the other, and you've only got two to choose from. You're either team Mack's Pizza or team Sam's Pizza Palace. Personally, I enjoy both.

If you're particularly fond of the way the folks do it over at Sam's, then brace yourself for some rough news. The Spera family is currently mourning the loss of their patriarch, founder of Sam's Pizza Palace, Sam Spero.

Spera passed away this past Friday, March 12th at the age of 92. According to the Press of Atlantic City, he came over to the United States in the 1950s where he decided to open up a business as a means to support his family. Well, it's a safe bet to say that little did he know, it'd end up being wildly successful.

Sam Spera reportedly owned the popular boardwalk pizza joint for 65 years, so as you can imagine, he had a lot of fans. Comments made under the tweet from Sam's Pizza Palace that revealed Spera's death show just how beloved he was to all who frequented the place. People are posting old photos, extending condolences to the family, as well as sharing their own personal memories of the legendary Sam's founder.

The family revealed that Sam's legacy will live on through his three children, his eight grandchildren, and his eleven great grandchildren.
