Former 6ABC Weather Guy Dave Frankel Dies at 67
Sad news came on Wednesday about the passing of Dave Frankel, the former Action News weatherman known for his quick wit and warm personality.
Dave Frankel died Wednesday at age 67 after a long battle with a form of dementia called primary progressive aphasia.
According to 6ABC, Frankel started with Action News as an investigative reporter in 1984 and almost accidentally ended up doing the weather.
6ABC Meteorologist Cecily Tynan, a former coworker, remembered Frankel for "his quick wit and sense of humor (that) made him a favorite at 6abc. Gone way too early. Rest in peace, Dave."

Dave Frankel grew up in Monmouth County, NJ, and planned on becoming a lawyer.
He attended Dartmouth College, where he took an internship at a Vermont TV station that piqued his interest in a broadcast career, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Frankel started at 6ABC as a reporter in 1984.
In 1989, Frankel, who wasn't a meteorologist, was asked to fill in for an injured colleague doing the weather one night.
He told the story to The Philadelphia Inquirer in 1998.
"I didn't know anything particular about weather. At the time it was just sort of a quirky thing. The next day, I figured to be back reporting."
Soon after, though, he took over doing the weather for the morning and noon newscasts.
He was named "Best Weatherperson" by Philadelphia Magazine in 1990 and 1991.
Frankel left WPVI in 1998 and worked for two years as a news anchor at KYW-3.
Dave then shifted gears and finally pursued the law degree he had wanted originally. Frankel graduated with a law degree from Villanova in 2006.
Dave Frankel is survived by his wife Marjorie and three children, Bailey, Scott, and Charlie.
