A fire at Sack O' Subs, at 5217 Ventnor Ave in Ventnor, sent smoke billowing into the sky over the town Saturday evening.

The three-alarm fire started between 5 and 6 pm.

It appears that the fire began in the apartments above the sub shop. Ventnor firefighters blocked off the 5000 block of Ventnor Avenue to get the fire under control.

Breaking AC reports that three families who live upstairs were displaced because of the fire.

The Ventnor Sack o' Subs was the original shop opened by the Sacco family in 1969.

The shop had just reopened after the Sacco family reacquired it.

Fire companies from Margate, Pleasantville, Atlantic City, Brigantine, and Longport responded to assist Ventnor firefighters.
