Three minors from Millville have been arrested for the murder of Lucas DeGeorge, a 17-year-old junior at Buena High School, who was shot to death on Saturday as he drove through Millville.

The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office announced on Thursday that they had charged three juveniles from Millville with murder, robbery, and a host of other crimes connected with the death.

This news comes as his devastated family prepares for Lucas DeGeorge's funeral on Friday.

His stepfather wrote about the death of Lucas in a GoFundMe for funeral expenses.

He was an amazing son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend. His parents and siblings are left with unimaginable pain and voids. He had his whole life ahead of him, and losing him so suddenly has left us devastated.

How Lucas DeGeorge Died

The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office says on Saturday, May 17th, Millville Police responded to the 900 block of Church Street for a report of an accident.

At the scene, cops learned that the driver of the vehicle had been shot and subsequently crashed.

The driver was Lucas. He was taken to Inspira Hospital in Vineland, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.

What Authorities Have Said About the Arrests

In a statement on Thursday, the prosecutor's office talked about what the murder investigation had uncovered.

Authorities believe two of the suspects had seen DeGeorge before the shooting and told him to meet them at the third suspect's home.

Apparently, when DeGeorge drove to that location,  they shot him, causing his vehicle to crash. The investigation is ongoing.

Some Closure for Lucas' Family

Whether these arrests will give any comfort to Lucas' family, who had vowed to get justice for his murder, remains doubtful.

So many questions remain to make sense of this murder.

Why was Lucas set up for an ambush? What were these kids thinking? What could have possibly warranted killing him?

The tragedy of losing this young man who had his whole life in front of him and was his family's 'bright light', and, as his grandmother said, is dead because of 'some coward with a gun', remains.

That loss may forever remain so overwhelming and completely stupid that those who love him may never find closure.
