Family Grieves As They Prepare to Bury Teen Killed in Millville
Lucas DeGeorge, a 17-year-old junior at Buena High School who loved soccer, cars, and sneakers, and was devoted to his family, was shot to death on Saturday as he drove through Millville.
This is not okay.
In his obituary, Lucas is remembered for his bright spirit and his potential in life.
An honor student enrolled in advanced classes, he was both intelligent and driven. He worked at ACME in Mays Landing and, in many capacities, helped his dad flip houses with the Veteran Home Project.
This boy, who turned 17 less than a month ago, had his whole life in front of him, and is dead because of 'some coward with a gun".
That's how Lucas' grandmother described his passing in a Facebook post the day after her grandson's death.
What Happened to Lucas?
The Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office says on Saturday, May 17th, Millville Police responded to the 900 block of Church Street for a report of an accident.
At the scene, cops learned that the driver of the vehicle had been shot and subsequently crashed.
The driver was Lucas. He was taken to Inspira Hospital in Vineland, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later.
Police have not said if they have any leads in the investigation into his murder.
His Stepfather Reacts to Lucas' Death
In a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses, Justin McGuigan tried to explain how his family is dealing with the pain of Lucas' death.
On May 17, 2025 our beloved son Lucas was tragically taken from us in a senseless act of gun violence. No words can truly express the pain and heartbreak our family is enduring right now.Lucas, 17 years old, was a bright and shining light. He was a junior at Buena Regional High School, who was an Honor Student. He loved his family immensely. He was an amazing son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend. His parents and siblings are left with unimaginable pain and voids. He had his whole life ahead of him, and losing him so suddenly has left us devastated.
