The date for the long-awaited opening of the new Somers Point Target is now known.

A sign outside the store invites shoppers to join Target beginning on Sunday, Oct. 24th

Let's recap. Target is taking over the spot previously occupied by Kmart in the Somers Point Plaza. The shopping center features Acme, Big Lots, and PetSmart.

The anchor space Target is moving into is over 100,000 square feet and has been vacant since Kmart closed in December 2019. Target remodeled the store to fit their purposes, selling everything from groceries and essentials to clothing and electronics, and the work is well underway.

There have been signs in the front window announcing,  "We're Hiring!" ( Who isn't, these days) since early August.

By the way, if you were thinking of applying for a job at the store, it's not too late.

Target still has positions advertised as available at the Somers Point Target team in general merchandise, style, "inbound expert" (that's Target-speak for stocking and setting up), clothing expert, guest advocate, and Starbucks barista.

According to one ad, a job for "guest advocate" has these responsibilities...

As part of our collaborative and guest-obsessed team, you help us create an experience that makes guests say “I love Target!” When you work at Target, you’re helping every family discover the joy in everyday life. You’re working alongside a dedicated team that brings their passion and pride to all that they do.

Staring salaries at Target are listed as between $11 and $15 an hour.

For shoppers in Somers Point and the surrounding communities, the opening of Target brings the convenience of having a large, quality retailer closer to home than having to drive to Mays Landing.

This store opening has been eagerly anticipated for some time. The Oct. 24 date will almost certainly be a big shopping day for the new Target.
