🔺 NJ Transit Police arrest suspect at Trenton Transit Center
Police may have helped derail a terrorist plot on Friday when they arrested a man on an Amtrak train at the Trenton Transit Center on Friday.
The man was found to have 3 handguns and two riffles.
The arrest concluded a day of good, investigative work by the New Jersey Transit Police.
Earlier in the day, New Jersey Transit Police were called to investigate an unattended bag observed at Newark Penn Station.
When police opened the bag, they discovered a handgun and rifle.
Further investigation led police to a passenger who purchased an Amtrak ticket to Virginia.
Police detained the train in Trenton where police initiated contact with the suspect.
When the suspect resisted, police placed him under arrest.
At that time, it was determined that the suspect had 3 handguns and two rifles with him on the train.
A police K9 unit was brought in to conduct a sweep of the train, and it was determined there were no further threats.
The train was then released to continue its journey.
Authorities haven't released much information about the suspect other than that he was a male.
There has been no announcement about whether the firearms were loaded, or why the man had the firearms with him.
Further, there has been no announcement on possible charges or where the suspect is being held.
Amtrak does permit passengers to bring firearms onboard their trains under certain circumstances.
The firearms must be properly secured and Amtrak needs to be notified in advance.
