Beloved South Jersey Ice Cream Spot Opens for Its 49th Season
Let's put aside all the talk about snowstorms and freezing cold weather and focus on something tasty and indulgent that reminds you of summertime in the dead of winter.
The iconic South Jersey ice cream spot, Custard Hut, is now open for its 49th season of "serving ice cream with heart", as they like to say.
The popular South Jersey ice cream spot will be open daily from 11 am to 10 pm until the season ends in early November.
Custard Hut Announces 49th Season Kickoff.
Custard Hut, the local favorite South Jersey ice cream store, with locations at 710 New Road, Somers Point, and Route 50 in Ocean View, opened on Friday, March 6th, for the 2026 season.
That means all of the Custard Hut favorites, like soft serve ice cream, homemade hand-dipped flavors, delicious sundaes, banana splits, and all the yummy water ice flavors, including my favorite...mango.
In Business for Almost 50 Years
In 1977, Rich Plum and his brother-in-law, Lou DeScioli, first opened Custard Hut on Route 9 in Somers Point. They added the Ocean View store three years later.
The two chose a mission statement that turned into a good business motto. 'We are the heart behind the ice cream you love."
Custard Hut is proud of all the generations of young people who have given a good first job over the years and thankful to all the customers who have stopped for something yummy along the way.
Today, Rich and Lucia Plum still run Custard Hut, alongside their two sons, Jason and Justin.
Custard Hut Loves Pups
As an advocate for pet adoption, one of the things I like about Custard Hut is their ‘Mutts at the Hut’ event to encourage pet adoptions.
It's just one way the owners give back to the community.
Good luck to Custard Hut on its 49th season in South Jersey!
