Cape May County Bridge Tolls Are Going Cashless
The Cape May County Bridge Commission is following the Atlantic City Expressway's lead by planning to eliminate cash toll payments in 2025.
Less than a decade after making the E-Z Pass system a payment option, the bridge commission says most people now use E-Z Pass to pay to cross Cape May County's five bridges.
Ending Cash & Coin Payments on Cape May Bridges in 2025
According to OCNJ Daily, the bridge commission hasn't set an exact date for the cashless changeover, but the plan is to do it in the first quarter of 2025 to work out the bugs in the system before the busy summer season.
If you are one of the estimated 90% of drivers using E-Z Pass to pay for these bridge tolls, nothing will change. If you still use cash to pay for your $2.50 bridge toll, however, you will now receive an invoice by mail instead.
If you don't pay the invoice within 30 days, you will be penalized with a $50 E-Z Pass administrative fee. So, your $2.50 toll will increase to $52.50, plus postage. Ouch!
Not surprisingly, the Cape May Bridge Commission foresees almost everyone finally making the switch to E-Z Pass.
The Cape May County Bridge Commission controls the five toll bridges linking Cape May County shore communities along Ocean Drive, including the Ocean City-Longport Bridge, Townsends Inlet Bridge, Corsons Inlet Bridge, Middle Thorofare Bridge, and Grassy Sound Bridge.
