Airbnb was very good for the bottom line of home owners in South Jersey last year.

New Jersey home owners earned more than $175 million by renting their properties through Airbnb in 2019, with those renting in Cape May and Atlantic counties earning the second and third most income in the state.

According to the annual report of earnings released by the hospitality company on Wednesday, renters in Cape May County welcomed 178,900 guests with rental income of $33.99 million, second-most in the state.

Atlantic County Airbnb users rented to the state's 3rd most guests, 90,700, with income of $12.3 million.  Ocean County ranked 4th highest for Airbnb use in New Jersey in 2019, with 53,00 guests and $11.8 million in rental income.

Hudson County brought in New Jersey's biggest numbers in 2019 with renters collecting $75M in income. Salem County brought in the least with $200,000 in income, according to the company.

The company also collected and paid to the state nearly $21 million in taxes in 2019, which is the first full year since a new law extending state-administered and local occupancy taxes to short-term rentals went into effect, the company said.
