A day of swimming in a Winslow Township lake turned tragic Monday when two people apparently drowned, police said.
Two Bodies Recovered From Winslow Township Lake
Rescue crews spent hours searching for two missing swimmers at Penbryn Lake in Winslow Township Monday afternoon, police say.
The two swimmers were reported missing at around 2:45 pm. Police say a group of four people were at the lake's edge Monday afternoon when two of the people went into the water.
When they did not return, their friends called 911.
Many agencies responded to the scene, including state and county officials, divers, K-9s, the fire department, and Camden County rescue boats.
6ABC is reporting that rescue teams recovered two bodies from a lake late this afternoon.
Penbryn Lake is Popular With Fishermen and Boaters
Penbryn Lake, which is controlled by New Jersey Fish & Wildlife, was once a quarry used for sand mining. Locals say the water is very deep.
People like to fish, kayak, and boat in the lake.
There is no other immediate information about the drownings.
