Man Who Hid Girlfriend’s Body in Fridge Pleads to Manslaughter
The man who killed his girlfriend and hid her body in a refrigerator, dumping it in Bellplaine State Forest, near Dennis Township, before going on the run twice, had his day in court this week.
Christopher Blevins, 45, of Gloucester City, was indicted for the death of Laura Hughes in June on first-degree murder charges by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Monday, the Camden County man pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of aggravated manslaughter, which means he admitted to causing Hughes’ death recklessly, but without the intent or premeditation required for a murder conviction
Blevins could be facing 17 years in prison with no early release when he is sentenced on December 5th.
Blevins is still facing charges in Cape May County for desecrating human remains.
The Death of Laura Hughes
Hughes, a mother of two daughters, was discovered by a hunter on December 22, 2024.
Police say he moved the fridge with the body inside to the Bellpaine State Forest around July 24th.
Police used her two very distinct back tattoos, along with a coin and a yoga mat found near the scene of the refrigerator, to help identify her.
Blevins Went on the Run
Christopher Blevins then fled on Aug. 2, ending up in Mexico City.
He surrendered to authorities in Mexico on Aug. 27 and told them he had been involved in a “violent incident” in Camden County, and that he panicked” afterward and went on the run.
He told investigators he may have killed someone during a bar fight.
Blevins returned to the U.S. and stayed in Delaware until around the time Hughes’ body was found.
He then left work one day during a lunch break and never returned, eventually being tracked down in San Diego, where police arrested him after he gave a false name.
Blevins was taken into custody and was extradited to New Jersey.
