The emergency vehicles and the accident victims you will see on Saturday at Atlantic City International Airport are not part of a real disaster; they are part of the training for one.

The South Jersey Transportation Authority has announced it will hold an emergency drill at the airport this Saturday, May 17, from 7 am - 1 pm.

Emergency Drill at ACY

The Atlantic City International Airport will conduct "a large-scale triennial exercise involving an aircraft and actors portraying accident victims".

The exercise is required by the Federal Aviation Administration regulations to be held every three years.

The purpose is to evaluate emergency response procedures in the event of a large-scale aircraft incident, the SJTA said Monday in a news release, according to the Press of Atlantic City.

This drill is critical to ensure the airport maintains the highest standards of safety coordination, and readiness in the event of a real-world emergency.

The drill will include airport personnel and federal, state, county, and local authorities participating.

“This exercise is critical to ensuring our preparedness in the unlikely event of a major emergency,” said Airport Director Tim Kroll. “We appreciate the community’s cooperation and understanding as we carry out this important safety initiative.”

What to Expect During Emergency Exercise

You will notice emergency vehicles, first responders dressed in gear, and simulated scenarios being played out in and around the airport on Saturday. Sirens and simulated smoke will be present during the drill.

ACY wants you to know that this is only a drill.

The Airport Will Be Open

The SJTA says that Atlantic City International Airport will remain open and operational all day Saturday, and all flights should be on time, and pickups will take place as usual.
