A dog who has been fending for himself for the last two weeks in the woods of Hamilton Township continues to elude animal control efforts to capture him and bring him in for medical treatment.

Abandoned, Injured Dog Still on the Run in Hamilton Township

Funny Farm Animal Rescue and Shore Animal Control have been trying unsuccessfully to corral a sickly-looking miniature schnauzer who has been sleeping outside and on roads after apparently being abandoned.

According to Facebook posts from Funny Farm Rescue, Shore Animal Control and concerned neighbors in western Hamilton Township and Buena Vista Township have been trying to capture the animal, whose gender is not known, but the dog is scared and always runs away.

On Monday, Funny Farm Rescue posted that a volunteer at the rescue had seen the dog and it appeared to be injured, leading them to think that the dog was hit by a car.

Volunteers went back to the place where they had seen the dog but weren't able to find him.

One of our volunteers saw the dog everyone has been trying to help. It was hit by a car but was still able to run into the woods and hide even though we know it was hurt.
... we went into the exact spot in the woods where he was last seen. After 1 hour, we had no luck.

A Rash of Abandoned Dogs in South Jersey

This case is another instance of a dog who was dumped by an owner who didn't want the animal anymore. Photos show the dog is still wearing a collar.

In this case, the owner of the animal didn't even try to make sure that the dog would be okay by leaving it at a shelter.

Shore Animal Control set some traps and is asking everyone not to feed him so he has a chance to get caught and they and us will help him find a good home.
If he is your dog, please come get him because he is afraid of everyone else. Or at least call Shore or Laurie at the Funny Farm at 609-742-9410.
We don’t want him to be any more afraid than he already is fending for himself and sleeping in the woods. If you have any heart at all, please help your dog. Do not let him get hit by a car. Sometimes he sleeps in the road or under people’s cars.
