An Extra Slice of the Profits? Manco & Manco Owners Plead Not Guilty to Tax Fraud
The owners of Manco & Manco Pizza appeared in Federal court in Camden Monday to plead not guilty to concealing almost $1million from the IRS.
Chuck and Mary Bangle are charged with skimming large amounts of cash from the famed South Jersey pizza chain between 2007 and 2011.
The couple bought controlling interest in the former Mack & Manco chain in 2011 and renamed it. Manco and Manco has three popular locations on the Ocean City Boardwalk and one in Somers Point.
The Feds are accusing Chuck Bangle of making numerous deposits into the couples' personal TD Bank account, always in amounts just under $10,000. Authorities say that was done so the couple's bank would not be required to report the transaction.
The couple are accused of stashing $981,000 under the table, or about $336,000 in unpaid taxes.
Charles "Chuck" Bangle, 54, and Mary, 53, were arrested at the Somers Point home earlier this month. A judge set a trial date for June, but it's expected it will be delayed.
