The Atlantic City lifeguard season will be over on Tuesday, September 30, and the number of beaches still being guarded is limited, but the lifeguards are still saving lives.

Atlantic City Lifeguards Save Two Swimmers

The Atlantic City Beach Patrol rescued two people who couldn't swim on Monday afternoon, according to NJ.com.

The lifeguards spotted two people struggling in the water at the Tennessee Avenue Beach at about 4:30 pm.

The surf has been rough, and there has been a high risk of rip currents much of the week as Hurricane Gabrielle passes offshore.

Beachgoers are warned about not swimming when there is a high risk of rip currents.

Struggling Swimmers Couldn't Swim

Atlantic City spokesman Matthew Duffy said that neither of the people struggling in the ocean could swim.

The first person lifeguards pulled from the water was conscious.

The second person, who was caught in heavy rip currents and was bleeding, lost consciousness. She then stopped breathing and had no pulse, according to officials.

The Beach Patrol Performed CPR

The lifeguards brought the woman ashore and began to perform CPR.

The woman regained a weak pulse and was taken to the hospital by the Atlantic City Fire Department.

She was listed in stable condition on Monday evening, Duffy told NJ.com.

Lifeguards remind you not to try swimming in rough surf conditions that you aren't capable of handling, and never swim on a beach without a lifeguard present.
